Studies on the Urban Fitness – EMS Method

The research

Recently, an important scientific study confirmed the safety and effectiveness of the Urban Fitness method. The scientific research was conducted by the University of Tor Vergata (Rome), under the guidance of Prof. Stefano D’Ottavio, professor of Sports Sciences at the School of Medicine – Department of Clinical Science and Translational Medicine. The study was conducted on a sample of 30 subjects. One group did a 20 minute workout with the Urban Fitness method (EMS); the second group did a normal EMS workout; and the third group did a strength circuit in the gym lasting 80 minutes a session a 70% of maximum load.

For each group, the trend in muscle strength was monitored as well as biochemical markers at rest (at the end of the workout, after 48 hours, after 72 hours), a factor which allows for the identification of a positive response to the workout. The results showed that the trend in physiological inflammatory response (present after any type of intense activity), tends to decrease gradually over the course of the first 6 sittings, returning to normal values after 48 hours of recovery. This underlines a positive physiological adaptation to this type of training. The subjects that trained with Urban Fitness workouts obtained, with respect to those doing the longer-lasting strength circuit in the gym, an average increase in muscular strength of over 20% in the lower limbs and 30% in the upper limbs.

Monitoring tools

Urban Fitness has always believed in monitoring tools for checking and experiencing the progresses to its clients. An objective assessment of the medical status and the client’s behavior allows to take action promptly for reviewing the training program and the potential integration with tools or professionals to achieve the goal (NUTRITIONIST, OSTEOPATH, …)

The most important monitoring tools that are used in Urban Fitness are:

  • BIA BODY COMPOSITION ANALYZER INBODY: a handy and easy scale that allows to check the client’s body composition in just 30 seconds. The parameters that are assessed primarily are: % lean body mass, % body fat, hydration, metabolic rate and mass distribution (lean and fat).
  • SUPER OP: a bracelet that, thanks to heart rate, blood pressure parameters and an advanced algorithm, allows to measure the client’s organic temporary condition. It measures the super-compensation state and, consequently, the best moment to train and express the full potential during a training.
  • D-WALL: it’s a Digital Wall. A 3D camera shows on a monitor in real time the values connected to the centre of gravity, the plantar support and the load distribution. Furthermore, you can verify the calories burned and the proper execution of the exercises thanks to the segmental analysis.
  • SIT & REACH: it consists of two planks of wood or metal mutually perpendicular with a graduated band (cm). It allows to measure in a simple way the flexibility and the joint mobility of the client. Thanks to an easy and instantaneous test you can verify the results of the stretching training with WBS (WELLBACK SYSTEM) method.

Technical tools

  • FLUIBALL: the innovative ball with fluid inside. A tool dynamically unpredictable that exploit the water mechanical properties to tone the deep tissues.
  • CABLE GYM: this tool allows the asymmetric execution of most of the exercises. The functional instability is excited and the core works completely in each exercise.
  • D-WALL: it’s a Digital Wall. A 3D camera shows on a monitor in real time the values connected to training.
  • WELLBACK SYSTEM: an innovative bench to remove muscular retractions and relax kinetic chains. In 20 minutes, more flexibility and wealth.
